Young Motocross Racer Airlifted to Hospital After Serious Crash in Scotland
What was meant to be another thrilling day on the motocross track turned into a nightmare for one young racer and his family. On August 9, at a race in Elgin, promising young rider Seb Craig suffered a serious accident that left him with a broken femur and needing emergency hospital care.
Seb, who has been racing since the age of six, was competing in front of family and fans when the accident happened. According to eyewitnesses, the youngster had just passed the area where his family was cheering him on when disaster struck. He clipped the side of the track, lost control of his bike, and was thrown off in a heavy crash.
His mother, Sandra, immediately sensed something was wrong. “Shortly after Seb passed us, I saw the flags raised to signal someone had crashed,” she recalled. “I knew it must be him.”
The crash caused Seb to break his femur the thigh bone, which is one of the strongest and largest bones in the body. Injuries of this kind are extremely painful and can also be dangerous because of the risk of severe blood loss.
Fortunately, trained paramedics were on-site at the event. They quickly reached Seb, stabilized him, and even managed to straighten the broken bone at the scene a crucial step in preventing further complications. However, it was clear he needed urgent hospital treatment.
The Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) was immediately called in. Within minutes, a helicopter arrived at the track, and Seb was airlifted directly to hospital for emergency surgery. Without this rapid response, the outcome could have been far worse.
Motocross is an exhilarating but high-risk sport, especially for young riders pushing themselves to the limit. For Seb, who has been passionate about racing since early childhood, the accident was a devastating blow, but it also highlighted the importance of safety measures and the incredible work of emergency responders.
While the crash was terrifying for his family, there is also relief that help came so quickly. Thanks to the fast actions of trackside medics and the SCAA air ambulance team, Seb is now receiving the care he needs and is on the path to recovery.
This incident serves as a reminder of both the risks and the resilience within motocross. Families and fans rally behind young riders like Seb, knowing the challenges they face, and communities across Scotland will no doubt be sending well wishes to the Craig family as Seb recovers from his ordeal.
