ARNHEM, Netherlands – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship is gearing up for its final mainland European stop this weekend as the MXGP of the Netherlands takes over the Motorsport Park Gelderland Midden. Located just north of Arnhem, the venue—known for its sandy, low-altitude terrain—hosts the event for the third consecutive year, promising an electric atmosphere and a packed crowd eager to cheer for the home heroes.

Arnhem’s MXGP Legacy

The Arnhem circuit has already delivered two memorable editions, with overall victories from top stars like Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre in the MXGP class, and Lucas Coenen and Liam Everts in MX2. Dutch motocross legend Herlings continues to hold the record for most Grand Prix wins on home soil with an incredible 15 victories for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, making him the rider to watch whenever the championship hits the Netherlands.

Championship Drama in MXGP

The title fight in the premier class took a major twist last weekend in Sweden. Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre dominated with a perfect 60-point haul, extending his championship lead to 41 points over Lucas Coenen, who struggled at Uddevalla. With Coenen’s strong track record at Arnhem, the Belgian rookie enters the weekend with little to lose and everything to gain.

Meanwhile, Dutch riders Glenn Coldenhoff (Fantic Factory Racing) and Calvin Vlaanderen (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP) sit third and fifth in the standings, both eager to claim a first Grand Prix win on home sand. Herlings, the local favorite, showed his pace in Sweden with second overall and is looking close to peak form heading into Arnhem.

MX2: Längenfelder vs. de Wolf

In the MX2 category, Simon Längenfelder of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing reclaimed the red plate with victory in Sweden, but Dutch star and reigning world champion Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) remains just 40 points adrift. With perfect performances this year in sandy GPs like Finland and Flanders, de Wolf will have the home crowd behind him as he aims to close the gap.

Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM) sits third, while Dutch riders Cas Valk, Rick Elzinga, and Jens Walvoort will all look to make an impression in front of home fans and improve their top-20 standings.

WMX and EMX250 Action

The Women’s Motocross World Championship returns for the second half of its season, with Dutch sensation Lotte Van Drunen (De Baets Yamaha) leading the charge. Just six points behind is six-time world champion Kiara Fontanesi (Fonta MX GASGAS), while Lynn Valk is also within striking distance. Van Drunen has been unbeaten at Arnhem and aims to keep that streak alive.

The EMX250 European Championship also heads into its penultimate round. Janis Reisulis (Team VHR VRT Yamaha) holds a 27-point advantage over Noel Zanocz (JM Racing Honda), while Francisco Garcia (BUD Racing Kawasaki) sits in third. Dutch talent Ivano Van Erp, fresh off injury recovery, will have strong local support.

Other Names to Watch

Expect strong rides from familiar faces: Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha), Andrea Bonacorsi (Fantic), Tim Gajser (Honda HRC), Jeremy Seewer (Ducati), and Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha) all aim to make an impact. Sand specialists like Brian Bogers and Roan Van De Moosdijk add further Dutch flavor to the lineup, while Lars van Berkel continues his substitute role for JWR Honda.

A Weekend Not to Miss

With a full 40-rider gate and some of the world’s best motocross athletes ready to tackle the challenging Arnhem sand, this weekend’s MXGP of the Netherlands promises high drama, intense battles, and unforgettable moments. Fans can expect a spectacle as the championship edges closer to its final stages.
