Texarkana, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana (TAMUT) has taken another major step toward shaping its future by announcing a historic naming agreement with Red River Credit Union (RRCU). The partnership will give the University’s future football stadium and its new Center for Financial Literacy and Investment the RRCU name, creating both an athletic landmark and a hub for financial empowerment in the region.

The announcement came during a September 4th press conference held outside the University Center, overlooking the land where RRCU Stadium will rise in the years ahead. On hand for the celebration were TAMUT President Dr. Ross Alexander, RRCU President Brad Bailey, RRCU Board of Directors President Fred Milton, Lone Star Conference Commissioner Jay Poerner, and TAMUT Athletic Director Ryan Wall. The event was emceed by Jay Davis, Executive Director of Financial and Entrepreneurship Engagement at TAMUT.

Dr. Alexander described the partnership as a natural fit. “Texas A&M University-Texarkana is proud to announce our agreement with RRCU for the naming of the RRCU Stadium and the RRCU Center for Financial Literacy and Investment,” he said. “RRCU’s commitment to serving the people of this community can be traced back to 1943 and aligns perfectly with A&M-Texarkana’s mission of providing world-class education and fueling economic growth. We are grateful to RRCU for its support and look forward to many years of collaboration.”

Building the Future of Eagle Football

The highlight of the agreement is, without question, the forthcoming RRCU Stadium soon to be the home of TAMUT Eagle football. Planning for the facility is still in the early stages, but the vision is clear. University leaders expect the stadium to feature:

  • Artificial turf for durability and performance
  • Seating for approximately 6,000 spectators
  • VIP suites and club-level seating for enhanced fan experience
  • A modern bowl-shaped design to amplify crowd energy

While an exact construction timeline has not been finalized, the University hopes to field its inaugural football season in 2027 and to host games in RRCU Stadium by the fall of 2028.

RRCU President Brad Bailey expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “Landing the naming rights for the RRCU Stadium and the RRCU Center for Financial Literacy and Investment cements our long-term partnership with A&M-Texarkana,” he said. “These are exciting times for RRCU, and we look forward to supporting the University’s continued growth.”

A Move Toward NCAA Division II

The stadium announcement comes at a pivotal time for Eagle athletics. TAMUT has officially begun the process of transitioning from the NAIA to NCAA Division II competition, with an invitation already secured to join the Lone Star Conference one of the nation’s most competitive Division II leagues.

“This transition is a transformational moment for Texas A&M University–Texarkana,” said Athletic Director Ryan Wall. “It elevates our athletic department into one of the most competitive conferences in the country while strengthening the visibility and reputation of the entire University. For student-athletes, it means more resources, more opportunities, and an experience that aligns with the NCAA Division II philosophy of balancing athletics, academics, and community engagement.”

Strengthening the Region Through Financial Literacy

Alongside the stadium plans, TAMUT and RRCU are investing in the financial future of the community through the RRCU Center for Financial Literacy and Investment. The center will be located inside the James C. Morriss Business, Engineering, and Technology Building, which is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in 2026.

The mission of the center is to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to achieve financial wellness. It will provide workshops, outreach programs, and personalized one-on-one sessions covering essential topics such as budgeting, debt management, credit building, and investment strategies.

Jay Davis, who will help lead the center’s work, emphasized its community impact. “Our partnership with Red River Credit Union allows us to provide more than just education; we’re offering real-world tools that empower individuals,” he said. “This center is at the heart of a collaborative effort to build a financially strong and resilient Four States Area one person at a time.”

Looking Ahead

The partnership between TAMUT and RRCU is more than a naming agreement; it is a shared vision for growth, empowerment, and community transformation. With RRCU Stadium set to become a centerpiece for school spirit and regional pride, and the RRCU Center for Financial Literacy and Investment poised to uplift families through financial education, the collaboration promises to leave a lasting impact.

As A&M-Texarkana embraces football, NCAA Division II athletics, and enhanced academic resources, the University is positioning itself not only as a place for higher learning but also as a driving force for economic and social progress in Texarkana and beyond.
