The Chicago Bears opened Week 4 with the release of their first official injury report on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Unfortunately for fans hoping for good news, the list featured more than a few familiar names, including some critical starters. While early-week reports don’t always tell the full story about who will be available come Sunday, this update gives us the first look at how healthy the team really is as they prepare for another important matchup.
Players Who Did Not Practice
Five Bears were listed as Did Not Participate (DNP) during Wednesday’s practice:
LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring)
CB Kyler Gordon (hamstring)
DT Grady Jarrett (knee)
TE Colston Loveland (hip)
RT Darnell Wright (elbow)
The two most concerning repeat names on this list are T.J. Edwards and Kyler Gordon. Both players have been battling hamstring injuries and once again started the week on the sideline. Edwards’ absence is particularly notable given his role as one of Chicago’s defensive leaders. Meanwhile, Gordon’s presence on the injury list continues to limit the depth in the secondary, where the Bears need every available cornerback.
Veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett also returned to the injury report with a knee issue. While there’s no confirmation yet about the severity, it’s possible this is more about managing his workload. At 32, Jarrett’s reps are valuable, but the Bears also need to be mindful of his long-term health.
Rookie tight end Colston Loveland is another new addition to the list, sidelined with a hip issue. Although early word around the team suggests there’s optimism he can still suit up this week, his absence highlights a bigger problem: both of the Bears’ top tight ends are currently dealing with injuries.
Lastly, right tackle Darnell Wright appeared on the injury report with an elbow injury sustained during Sunday’s game. Wright briefly left the field for 11 snaps but did return to finish the contest. The Bears will certainly hope this is precautionary, as losing Wright for any stretch of time would create a significant hole along the offensive line.
Players Who Were Limited
Three players were listed as Limited Participants:
CB Jaylon Jones (hamstring)
TE Cole Kmet (groin)
RB D’Andre Swift (hip)
Among these names, Jaylon Jones offered the most encouraging development. After not practicing previously, Jones was able to return on a limited basis, signaling progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury. If he can continue trending upward, he could be available for game day.
The news is less positive for tight end Cole Kmet, who was slowed by a groin injury. With Loveland already sidelined, the Bears’ tight end room suddenly looks thin. Kmet is one of the offense’s most reliable safety valves, so his health will be critical to monitor as the week unfolds.
Running back D’Andre Swift also appeared on the list once again, though this time with a new injury designation. After being limited last week due to a quad issue, Swift is now battling a hip injury. While the Bears have capable depth at running back, Swift’s explosiveness and versatility are hard to replace.
A Bit of Good News
To finish on a brighter note, linebacker D’Marco Jackson who has been nursing a hamstring injury was a Full Participant in practice. Seeing him return at full capacity is a welcome sign for a defense that has been banged up early in the season.
What This Means Going Forward
It’s only Wednesday, which means there’s still time for several of these players to improve before Sunday. That said, the Bears are clearly dealing with a number of key injuries to both starters and important depth pieces. The offensive line, secondary, and tight end group are particularly vulnerable right now.
The next couple of practice reports will be crucial indicators of how prepared this team will be heading into their Week 4 matchup. For now, Bears fans will have to cross their fingers that Wednesday’s lengthy injury list shrinks considerably by the weekend.
