With the Major League Baseball postseason just around the corner, the Toronto Blue Jays have received some encouraging news on one of their most important players. Shortstop Bo Bichette, who has been sidelined since early September with a left knee sprain, is making progress in his recovery at just the right time.

On Tuesday, Bichette took batting practice for the first time since sustaining the injury, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Reports indicate that the session went well, a strong sign for both Bichette and the Blue Jays organization. However, the 27-year-old has not yet tested the knee by running, which will be a key step before determining whether he can rejoin the lineup.

Bichette has been out of action since September 6, and the expectation is that he will miss the remainder of the regular season. Despite that, the Blue Jays remain optimistic that he can return in time for October baseball. With Bichette being one of Toronto’s most consistent offensive weapons, having him back for the playoffs could be a game-changer.

The Blue Jays have already punched their ticket to the postseason, but the final stretch of the regular season still holds weight. Toronto is battling to secure the top spot in the American League East Division. Clinching one of the top two seeds in the American League would not only give them a first-round bye but also allow additional recovery time for players like Bichette. That cushion could prove invaluable as the team prepares for a deep playoff run.

Even if Bichette is not fully ready to take the field defensively, Toronto has options. The team could use him at the designated hitter position, ensuring his bat remains in the lineup while easing him back into full health. Bichette’s ability to consistently produce at the plate makes him an asset in any capacity.

This season, Bichette has once again proven himself as one of the league’s premier shortstops, both offensively and defensively. His absence has been felt in the lineup, but the Blue Jays have managed to hold their ground thanks to contributions from across the roster. Still, there is no question that having Bichette available strengthens their chances of making a serious postseason push.

For now, all eyes will be on how his knee responds in the coming days. The transition from batting practice to running and fielding will determine whether Bichette can be activated in time for the playoffs. The Blue Jays’ medical and coaching staff will no doubt take a cautious approach, balancing the immediate desire to have him in the lineup with the long-term importance of his health.

As the postseason nears, Toronto fans can take comfort in knowing that Bichette’s return is within sight. If his recovery continues on the current path, the Blue Jays could be welcoming back one of their biggest stars just in time for the games that matter most.
