For the third consecutive year, Chase Sexton has seen his SuperMotocross Championship (SMX) season come to a painful and premature end. The Red Bull KTM rider’s campaign concluded in dramatic fashion during the final moto of the season, when a crash in the motocross section of the track left him sidelined once again.
Sexton was riding in a comfortable fourth place when disaster struck. He suffered a violent endo that threw him hard to the ground. The crash was serious enough that Sexton remained down for several laps, with Alpinestars’ medical crew rushing to his side while yellow flags waved to protect him from oncoming riders. Fans and fellow competitors alike watched anxiously, as the moment brought back memories of previous season-ending incidents for the 24-year-old star.
According to KTM’s official press release, Sexton sustained a “mild concussion and a weak shoulder that he will have further evaluated this upcoming week.” While the injuries could have been far worse, the timing and history make this setback another frustrating blow. It also almost certainly rules Sexton out of representing Team USA at the 2025 Motocross of Nations, marking the second year in a row he will miss the event due to injury.
Las Vegas therefore becomes Sexton’s final appearance in Red Bull KTM colors, closing a chapter of highs and hard-luck crashes. Looking ahead, he is expected to make a major move to Monster Energy Kawasaki beginning in 2026, where he will look for a fresh start and a clean bill of health.
Team USA’s MXoN lineup has now been thrown into further disarray. With Haiden Deegan also sidelined after breaking his collarbone, selectors are scrambling to finalize replacements. The most likely scenario has RJ Hampshire stepping into Sexton’s 450 role, while either Justin Cooper or Cooper Webb could fill Deegan’s vacant 250 slot aboard the Yamaha YZ250F.
Sexton’s misfortune in season finales has become a troubling pattern. He crashed out of the 2023 Los Angeles finale while leading, and in 2024 he broke his hand after being landed on during the opening lap. Now, in 2025, another crash has once again left him watching from the sidelines. Fans will be hoping his move to Kawasaki brings not only success but also the consistency and durability that has so far eluded him at this crucial stage of the season.
