The 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship wrapped up in style at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland, as the Yamaha Racing Budds Creek National Finals brought the summer season to a close. The 11th and final round of the series also marked the 28th stop of the SMX World Championship regular season, locking in the playoff contenders.

Fans were treated to a dramatic day of racing, with both the 250 Class and 450 Class delivering action-packed motos under warm afternoon skies.

Deegan Doubles Up in the 250 Class

The spotlight fell on the 250 Class, where Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) successfully defended his championship. The teenage prodigy showed why he’s the face of the future, dominating the field to claim the Gary Jones Cup for the second straight year.

Deegan’s relentless speed and composure confirmed his status as the rider to beat heading into the SMX playoffs, further cementing his reputation as motocross’ new generation star.

Jett Lawrence Seals Back-to-Back Titles in 450 Class

With the 450 championship already secured a week prior, Jett Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive) arrived at Budds Creek looking to close his campaign with authority and he did just that.

The Australian phenom stormed to his ninth overall victory of the season, adding yet another exclamation point to a dominant summer. His consistency and raw pace earned him back-to-back 450 titles, a feat that has him firmly etched as the sport’s standout name.

Joining him on the overall podium were Hunter Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive) and Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), who showcased grit and determination in the finale.

450 Moto One Recap: Lawrence Untouchable, Cooper Resurgent

The opening 450 moto saw Jett Lawrence stamp his authority early, grabbing the holeshot and quickly establishing control. Justin Cooper briefly snatched the lead but Lawrence wasted no time reclaiming it, as the duo separated from the pack with RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) chasing in third.

For the majority of the moto, Lawrence maintained a five-second cushion, while Cooper absorbed constant pressure from Hampshire. Lapped traffic spiced things up late on, with Hunter Lawrence inserting himself into the fight for second.

On the final lap, Hunter charged past Hampshire and pressed Cooper hard, setting up a thrilling three-way battle. In the end, Jett crossed the line comfortably, collecting his 16th moto win of the year, while Cooper secured a much-needed second-place finish his first since RedBud and Hunter completed the podium.
