The 2025 high school football season kicked off in spectacular fashion for Sacramento (Calif.) Folsom High School, and two of the biggest names on the field wasted no time showcasing why they’re among the most highly touted recruits in the country. Four-star wide receiver and Ole Miss commit Jameson Powell delivered a strong debut performance, sharing the spotlight with teammate and BYU quarterback commit Ryder Lyons in what could be a preview of a dominant season ahead.
Powell, one of the nation’s Top 100 wide receivers, announced his commitment to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels back in January. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound speedster chose the Rebels over other notable programs, including Oregon, Arkansas, Colorado, and Arizona, after a heated recruitment process that saw him become one of the most sought-after prospects on the West Coast.
In an era where players often leave the door open for potential flips, Powell has made his intentions crystal clear: he’s all in with the Rebels.
“I’m 100% locked in with Ole Miss,” Powell told On3 Sports this offseason. “I won’t be taking any other visits. My focus is on my senior season and preparing for the SEC.”
That kind of commitment speaks volumes—not only about Powell’s loyalty but also about the trust and relationships he’s built with the Ole Miss coaching staff. According to Powell, it wasn’t just the Rebels’ offensive system that caught his attention, but the people behind it.
“Important factors to me are having a family-oriented connection with the offensive coordinator and my position coach,” Powell explained. “Also, having great relationships with the strength coach and the head coach. I want to know where they see me in their system and how I can help their team in the best ways.”
Those meaningful connections with the Rebels’ staff, particularly head coach Lane Kiffin, played a major role in sealing the deal. Known for his offensive creativity and ability to get the most out of his skill players, Kiffin made Powell a priority—and now has one of California’s most electric receivers in the fold.
Powell’s early-season performance already indicates that he’s primed for a breakout senior campaign. With Ryder Lyons under center, the two have developed strong chemistry that’s sure to give defenses headaches throughout the year. Lyons, a fellow high-profile recruit committed to BYU, has the arm strength and decision-making to maximize Powell’s big-play ability.
Folsom’s offense looked sharp and cohesive in their season opener, with Powell flashing his speed, route-running, and soft hands.
