Morning Vibes: The Stage is Set

Good morning, motocross fans! The season’s final gate drops are here, and we’re soaking it all in at Budds Creek Motocross Park. It’s been a summer filled with drama, surprises, and edge-of-your-seat racing, and now only two motos remain in both the 250 Class and 450 Class before the books officially close on another unforgettable season. And let’s not forget, we also have one more WMX moto on deck this afternoon to decide the women’s championship.

By day’s end, new champions will be crowned, records could fall, and the storylines we’ve followed since spring will come to their conclusion.

Race Day Weather and Track Conditions

Budds Creek has a reputation for testing riders with challenging conditions, and today promises to keep them honest. The forecast calls for a high of 81°F with 65% humidity comfortable by Budds standards but still warm enough to keep fitness a factor. The breeze is minimal, meaning no relief from the heat as the motos wear on.

Track crews, led by Ezra Beasley and team, have been hard at work, grooming what riders like to call “chocolate cake dirt.” Expect deep ruts, technical braking bumps, and slick kickers forming on the faces of jumps. While the layout hasn’t changed from last year, don’t let that fool you Budds Creek is a rider’s track, and by the second motos it will demand precision and stamina.

450 Class Storylines: Can Anyone Stop Jett?

The premier class has seen one dominant figure all summer: Jett Lawrence. Having already secured his second AMA Pro Motocross title last weekend, the 18 Honda rider has nothing left to prove but plenty to gain with another win. Today is a chance to add one more statement victory to his résumé.

But don’t overlook the rest of the field. His brother Hunter Lawrence, veteran Eli Tomac, and consistent contender Justin Cooper all have their eyes on the top step. With Chase Sexton sidelined by injury, Hunter remains the only rider to steal an overall away from Jett this season. Could today deliver another surprise? Will Tomac finally claim the elusive overall he’s been chasing? Or could Cooper break through with his first 450-class victory?

250 Class: Title on the Line

The spotlight in the 250s is squarely on Haiden Deegan, who leads the standings by 43 points. The math is simple: a 15th-place finish in Moto 1 will clinch his second consecutive AMA Pro Motocross title. But Deegan is known for more than just consistency he’s a showman and a racer who likes to win. Could he cap off his 250 career by celebrating on the center of the podium?

Jo Shimoda, meanwhile, has played the spoiler role beautifully, holding off Deegan last weekend and forcing the title fight to the finale. Shimoda’s smooth style and late-season momentum make him a threat, and history is on his side he’s won Budds Creek finales before, including in 2023. Don’t count out other hungry contenders looking to end the year with a statement ride.

WMX and More

In between the pro motos, the spotlight shifts to the women of motocross. The WMX class takes to the track for its final moto of the season, with the championship up for grabs. All signs point to Lachlan Turner adding another Yamaha-backed title to the brand’s growing trophy haul.

All Eyes on Budds Creek

From Henry Hill to the Big Gulp section, this track is steeped in history and lined with some of the best vantage points in motocross. Before you set up your chair or settle in on the couch, get familiar with the layout. Thanks to Maryland’s own Justin Rodbell, fans can take a virtual lap around Budds Creekexpect big whips, high speeds, and plenty of excitement from the local favorite aboard the 148.
