The Los Angeles Rams welcomed some key faces back to the field on Monday as **quarterback Matthew Stafford** and rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson participated in practice following injury setbacks. Head coach Sean McVay, however, is preaching patience, emphasizing a flexible, day-by-day mindset, particularly regarding Stafford’s return to full activity.
Stafford Returns from Back Injury, But Caution Remains
After missing the opening stretch of training camp due to back soreness tied to an aggravated disc issue, Matthew Stafford took part in practice on Monday, marking his first action since the injury occurred. The veteran quarterback participated in both individual drills and full-team work, including a 26-play sequence during team drills.
While Stafford’s return is an encouraging sign for the Rams’ offense, McVay made it clear that there are no firm plans beyond the current day.
“We’re going to keep it a day and really a week at a time,” McVay said following the practice session. “It’s great to see him back out there today, and we’ll evaluate how he responds this afternoon.”
The Rams are taking a conservative approach to managing Stafford’s workload, factoring in the nature of back injuries and the importance of ensuring their starting QB is fully healthy for the regular season. McVay praised Stafford for doing “everything in his power” to stay on top of his rehab, crediting both the player and the team’s sports medicine staff, led by Reggie Scott.
“It’s a very fluid situation that demands flexibility,” McVay added.
Alaric Jackson’s Rehab Progressing
In more positive news for the offensive line, McVay shared that Alaric Jackson is progressing well in his recovery from a blood clot issue. Although he remains limited in terms of full-team participation, Jackson is reportedly in excellent physical condition and maintaining a strong mental approach.
“He’s able to be physically active, just with some restrictions,” McVay said. “I couldn’t be more impressed with how he’s handled the situation. He’s added good muscle, taken great care of himself, and he’s in great physical and mental shape.”
Jackson is still being evaluated week-to-week but appears to be on the right trajectory. The Rams remain hopeful he’ll return to full participation soon.
Rookie TE Terrance Ferguson Returns in Limited Role
The Rams also saw rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson take the field again after missing time with a groin injury sustained earlier in training camp. While his involvement was limited, McVay was pleased with what he saw.
“He was a little limited in what he could do, but I thought he did a nice job with the few reps he got,” McVay said.
Ferguson, known for his athleticism and red-zone potential, is one of several young players fighting for a meaningful role in the Rams’ offense this preseason.
With Stafford, Jackson, and Ferguson all trending in the right direction, Monday’s practice brought a wave of optimism to the Rams’ camp. However, the organization remains focused on long-term health and will continue evaluating its key players on a day-by-day and week-to-week basis.
