Every year, college football insider Bruce Feldman releases his much-anticipated “Freaks List” — a comprehensive rundown of the most athletically gifted and physically dominant players across the country. It’s a celebration of raw power, speed, explosiveness, and overall athleticism that shows up on the field, in the weight room, and on the testing charts. For many fans and players alike, being featured is a badge of honor.

In Feldman’s 2025 edition, Alabama was well-represented, particularly along its powerful offensive line. Three Crimson Tide linemen earned their spots: left tackle Kadyn Proctor, center Parker Brailsford, and right guard Jaeden Roberts. Each of them absolutely deserves the recognition. They’re not only monsters in the trenches but also test off the charts in terms of strength and movement skills. And let’s be honest — Alabama rarely lacks elite talent.

However, according to new Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, Feldman may have left out one of the biggest “freaks” of all.

Wommack has been vocal in interviews about the physical tools and sheer athletic dominance of one of his own defenders — someone he believes should’ve made the list alongside the offensive stars. Though Feldman traditionally tries not to stack his list too heavily with players from one program, the omission in this case may have been a significant oversight.

Why? Because Alabama’s defense is just as stacked with absurd athletes as its offense, and Wommack is seeing that firsthand. With his background as a head coach and defensive coordinator at South Alabama and Indiana, Wommack knows a freak athlete when he sees one. He’s coached and schemed against some of the best in the country. So, when he makes a point to highlight a specific player’s athleticism, it’s worth paying attention.

While Feldman’s decision to limit the number of selections from powerhouse programs is understandable — he aims to shine a spotlight on hidden gems from less-hyped teams as well — it also risks under-representing some of the most freakish athletes in the nation. Alabama is a factory for NFL-ready bodies, and sometimes, those who play defense, especially in the front seven, get overshadowed by offensive linemen who rack up weight room numbers that pop off the page.

That seems to be what’s happened here. The Tide’s offensive line trio is certainly worthy, but if Wommack’s evaluation is accurate, then one of his own defensive stars should be in the conversation as well. Whether it’s a freakishly fast edge rusher, a linebacker with rare size-speed combination, or a defensive back who jumps out of the gym, Alabama’s defense boasts athleticism that’s just as elite.

Perhaps Feldman will revisit this name during the season if the player Wommack hinted at starts dominating headlines. It’s also possible that the “freak” in question will end up being a top NFL Draft prospect, forcing everyone to go back and ask how he didn’t make the list in the first place.

Until then, fans will keep watching closely — because if Wommack is right, Alabama’s “freak count” isn’t just three. It’s at least one higher.
