In a significant blow to the Detroit Lions’ defensive line, head coach Dan Campbell confirmed Sunday that defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike will miss the entire 2025 NFL season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL.

The unfortunate news marks a major setback not only for Onwuzurike’s career but also for a Detroit team with high expectations heading into the new season. Onwuzurike sustained the injury during training camp and, after further evaluation, it was determined that surgery would be necessary — officially ending his 2025 campaign before it ever began.

“It’s tough to lose a guy like Levi,” Coach Campbell said during his press conference. “He’s worked really hard to get to this point, and it’s incredibly unfortunate. We’re going to support him every step of the way during his recovery.”
