Max Muncy won’t be returning to rescue the Dodgers’ struggling offense anytime soon, as reported by Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
On Sunday, DiGiovanna revealed that Muncy has been shut down from all baseball activities after experiencing a “twinge” in his rib cage during a rehab workout in Arizona. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for the slugger’s return.
Muncy initially went down with an oblique injury in mid-May, leading to his placement on the 10-day IL. While it was always unlikely that he would recover from an oblique injury within the 10-day window, this setback is particularly damaging for a team that desperately needs his power in the lineup.
Before his injury, Muncy had hit nine home runs in 40 games, putting him on pace to match his career-high of 36 home runs from last season. There was hope that his return would rejuvenate an offense that has been struggling since his departure. Now, the Dodgers will have to look for other solutions while Muncy focuses on getting healthy, ideally in time to contribute to a postseason run.
