I’m not sure any team has been hit harder by the injury bug than the Braves over the last two months. Several All-Stars have missed significant time, including the reigning NL MVP and the team’s ace, who are both out for the season. These injuries are a major reason for the Braves’ sluggish start in 2024. Things seemed to get even worse on Wednesday when Jarred Kelenic left the game after making a diving catch in the outfield. However, the Braves received some positive news after the game: X-rays were negative, and Kelenic expressed gratitude that he avoided a serious injury. While Kelenic is not in the lineup tonight against the Nationals and may miss a few more days, the situation could have been much worse. Losing Kelenic for an extended period would be a nightmare for the Braves, who have already lost Ronald Acuña Jr. for the season and lack strong backup options for the outfield.
“I think I got lucky. I just kinda jammed my wrist a little bit. Didn’t feel anything crazy, but I passed all the test. Little stiff but I should be fine”

Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution provided an update on A.J. Minter today. Minter, arguably the best pitcher in the Braves’ bullpen, has been out since last week with hip inflammation. It appears he is on track to return right when he’s eligible after 15 days. Although Atlanta’s relief corps has managed without him so far, the team needs its bullpen to be lights out every night due to the numerous injuries affecting other key players.
