The Atlanta Braves, much like many Major League Baseball teams, are grappling with injuries this season.

All-Star catcher Sean Murphy sustained an oblique strain in Atlanta’s season-opener and remains sidelined. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Spencer Strider underwent surgery on his right elbow, ruling him out for the entirety of the 2024 season.

However, there may be some good news on the horizon for Atlanta. Second baseman Ozzie Albies, who has been sidelined since last Tuesday with a broken toe, has been actively participating in workouts and could potentially make his return sooner than expected. Initial estimates suggested Albies could be out for three weeks to a month, but manager Brian Snitker revealed to the media ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Miami Marlins that Albies could be activated as early as this Friday.

Albies showcased promising signs during a full batting practice session on Monday, demonstrating unrestricted movement on the field. Prior to his injury, Albies had been a crucial presence in the lineup, batting .317/.386/.492 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. His absence was felt after he sustained the injury last Monday against the Houston Astros when he was hit by a pitch on his toe. Despite finishing the game, Albies underwent postgame medical examinations and an x-ray revealed a break in his big toe, leading to his placement on the injured list the following day.

In Albies’ absence, David Fletcher was called up from AAA Gwinnett and has shared second base duties with Luis Guillorme.
